A Dog’s Life
Starting on Monday I’m going to post chapters of books I am writing. The first book is “A Dogs Life”. Follow up every Monday. I’m going post the first chapter to day though.
A Dogs Life
Prolog
I wish you humans could understand dog. It took a lot of work and effort to translate this book into what ever you call it. Anyway let’s get on with it. My friend and I will take a leash and hook it to your collar and walk you though our lives.
Chapter one
The Sad Beginning
“Mother, you will never live me right?” I questioned.
“I’ll try, Quick eye but humans can come and take me away from you, or you away from me” she replied sadly.
“ Oh” I said. “I hope that never happens”.
“Me too, me too” she replied distantly.

Yawn,
Stretch.
I opened my eyes and looked around for my Mother, but she wasn’t there. I looked in the other cages but she was not there either. I whimpered and stared to cry. I was only 14 dog weeks old (4 human weeks) and still relied on my Mother for milk and guidance. But now she was gone forever and I would never see her again. I cried even harder at this thought. “How would I get food?” I thought. I can’t eat food and I used to get milk from my Mother, but she’s not here so I can’t eat! But then I’ll die of starvation!! What should I do mother-less? Oh I wish she was here. How could she or someone else do this to me? Because of this I will probably die. As each thought went through my head I began to cry and really miss my mother and loath whoever did this to me – which was probably humans, Which made me loath humans. Sumans I thought, and that’s the day my hate for humans began. I sucked it up and waited for the first victim of my scheme to come through the door. I had seen so many sumans (my new name for humans) come through the swinging doors, but I had never seen beyond them, nor had my mother. I almost started to cry again but then a suman came through the door. “Food dogies” said the suman man unknowing of my scheme and that he was just about to suffer for the consequences of taking my Mother away for me whether he was the one who did it or not. Every single one of them are the same. Evil, meanes, bullies all the same female or male, puppy or adult, Mother or Father, big or small, they are all the SAME. NO DIFFERENCE.

The man approached my cage, and stuck his hand in after unlocking it. I bit him with all my might. He screamed and howled in pain leaving the cage wide open. I merrily jumped out the long way to the floor and ran out under the swinging doors into the world of sumans. I was free, but then I realized I wasn’t I was just in a noter place I saw the door it was open I ran thure it thure a hole in the gate i felt soft green things on my paws and smelt sweet and lovely air I was free.

Yawn.
My slim boy body stretched I was only a puppy and I had no Mother, only a Father. My Mother was taken away from me when I was just born and sent to the pound. So my Father and I spent our time looking for liquid food and running away from humans. There was more hard food then liquid, so I couldn’t wait till I could eat it. I was 14 dog weeks old so I still couldn’t eat. My Father guided me instead of my Mother. But I was perfectly happy. Like every morning, I checked that Dad was still there and breathing. This morning, I looked around the conner closest to me, the fancy side with tons of food, that both my Dad and I could eat. But they were there pacing, they knew where we got our food. I quickly ducked back inside the alleyway and went to look out the other side, same story. No food this morning. Why whenever I wanted to impress Dad were they always guarding the food? I sighed and went to wake up Dad. He jumped up with a start. I told him the story. He ruffled my fur and said “Good Job Swift Tail”. Like he always did when he wanted me to think he was impressed and proud. But I knew he would be really proud if I brought back food. Then he suddenly yelped in pain and fell asleep. “I got him ” the human shouted, coming my way, I quickly ducked into my box and watched them take away my Father. This time I had no one, they’d taken away my Mother and Father. Now I was mad really mad. That’s how our war was started and I am determined to win. I will beat all humans, then dogs and other animals will rule the world! “I will win” I chanted over and over in my head, slowly falling asleep in my box.

Chapter 3
The Big Rolling Monster
Come on Quick-Eye I told myself, “you can do it”. But then another Rolling Monster with a suman inside came crashing by. Every time it would knock the hope out of me, but then I would see the tall swaying peaceful things and would feel the soft green ground underneath me and that would bring my hope back. Some of these Rolling Monsters had other dogs in them saying “What are you doing? Why…” but the Monster would roll a way before I heard the rest. At first I wondered why they sounded so jolly and happy but I soon realized it was because they wanted me to free them. I tried, but the Monster would just push me down and hurt me really badly so I stopped trying. Then I saw what I was looking for, an alleyway with a puppy about my age in it. Perfect I thought.
Yawn I woke up in my box and walked outside expecting my Dad to say “Good morning Swift-Tail”. But then I remembered the invents from earlier this morning. My Dad was GONE forever, just like my Mom. Then I saw it, a figure at first, I was scared, but when I saw it was just another puppy. I sighed in relief and happiness and decided I would wait in a corner near my box.

Chapter 4
The Plan
As the shape got closer I wondered what I would I say? Would I scare the puppy? Did the puppy see me too or did I dodge before I was seen? Should I show myself again? Then I reminded myself that was too risky! I was so sucked up in my thoughts that I didn’t see the puppy come until it whispered “Hello.” “Oh hello” I said “What’s your name? “Quick-Eye” Quick-Eye replied “I’m Swift-Tail” We played together. We played chase and rolled around in the ally,we even found a rotten fish and rolled in it. It was the best smelling perfume in the world. After all the fun, we became BFF’s. Then Quick-Eye said “I want to start a war against sumans! Will you join me?” “What are sumans?”I asked “I want to start a war against humans” Quick-Eye explained her story then I explained mine. “I’ll call them sumans too, it’s a better name for them” I said

Chapter 5
The hide out making
By the next week Swift-Tail had told me everything from where to get food to when to hide. I told Swift-Tail that I’m not that great at doing the type of stuff that she had described. We found out that I was a good spotter, really smart, and good at making game plans, even if I was not the one who preformed them. That morning Swift-Tail had nicked 2 walkie-talkies (the earpiece type), a computer, a monitor and a super big box all in her wagon. I couldn’t believe a suman hadn’t seen her! We started to make our hide out. Then we realized that unlike the little box that Swift-Tail had, we couldn’t move this box. So swift tale ran and got a plastic cover. We attached it. The plastic cover was so see- through that no one would ever guess that there was a plastic cover over the box. When Swift-Tail was out she had gotten a knife, she craved a door way in the box, with it. We placed it so that the entryway was facing the dumpster, so that only dogs could get through to the inside. Then we dragged the computer and monitor inside. When we were finished the sun was going down and we were tired. We went back inside the new hide out and to the little box that we had now turned over to make a bed for the both of us, we curled up inside the box and fell asleep.

Chapter 6
The Finder
Yawn, I got up Swift-Tail was still asleep. I stepped outside and there was a…
I got up with a start to the sound of Quick-Eye barking outside. I ran outside to join her and there it was a…
Suman! I ran back inside before it saw me, but Quick-Eye wasn’t as lucky, she was still there parlazed. I ran out side to get her but the suman was gone and so was Quick-Eye! My best friend was gone now, because of sumans. I could fell anger rising inside of me. When the suman came back. I got ready to bite, but then her soothing voice and soft gentle strokes calmed me down. She picked me up.
When we got to their den, Quick-Eye was listening to stories, she immediately stopped when I walked in and greeted me, she said that the dog she was listening to stories from was her mother and she was telling her how she had got there. She turned around and told her mother that she was going to play outside with me. We ran outside. “My mother said we should trust these humans.” Said Quick-Eye. Since when did she call them humans? I thought “why” I asked
“I was just getting there” Quick-Eye replied “ So my mother was taken away by some mean humans, who couldn’t have cared less about her but luckily she escaped. When she was waking along these humans found her and fed her, she was on the verge of starvation. They took her to their den, were nice to her, didn’t hurt her and let her sleep on the coziest bed next to a blazing fire, that kept her warm”
“Wow, these humans are different!” I exclaimed.
Then I heard a dog’s voice that sound like my father’s. It was coming from the other side of the fence, it said “Is that you Swift-Tale?” excited, I started digging under the fence Quick-Eye helped me, eventually the hole was big enough to see through and there he was, my father. I started barking franticly. One of the humans came out side and took Quick-Eye and me over to the other side of the fence. I ran over to my dad, he said, “Come meet your mother.” I followed him and there she was, my mother. I ran up to her and said with out thinking “ Are the humans nice?”
She laughed and replied “ Yes, Swift-Tale they are.” We all laughed. I was happy here, even if I hadn’t met the humans, yet.
The next day we decided to have a meeting.
We decided that not all humans are evil, and that the lesson learned was not to judge something or someone based on another person or thing. Don’t judge anything till you meet it or them. Mean humans still have to be stopped from separating families until they are ready or not at all. So we decided to write a book, this book.
